The Bachelor of Science in Education major in Mathematics (BSEd-MATH) program seeks to train students to become effective Mathematics teachers for both elementary and high school level.
Mathematics can be divided into two branches, pure and applied mathematics. Pure mathematics involves the study of structures, their components and the relationships among them. Applied mathematics relates mathematical knowledge to other disciplines. Consequently, the undergraduate major in mathematics and applied mathematics can be a vital and engaging part of the preparation for many careers and for a well-informed and responsive citizenship. The minimum policies and standards provided herein aims to guide institutions in their mission of providing the best undergraduate mathematics education possible for their majors. It seeks to ensure a reasonable level of harmony in mathematics and applied mathematics programs, covering minimum competency standards, curricular offerings, course descriptions, library and other resources, and faculty qualifications.
Objective
- Develop glabally competent future educators who are physically, intellectually, morally, socially, and emotionally prepared to fulfill their commitment to their profession and able to bring about a better life for the people who are open and responsive to the challenges of time.
- Equip students with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values needed for effective and efficient teaching.
- Provide professional and technical training through academic and non-academic requirements with the cooperation of the laboratory schools and other linkages.
